Old and East Grit mines were known to be operating in 1860's, two engine houses can be seen today, the most complete being at the farm (East Grit) and is a nice example, it was erected by John Taylor. The other engine house (Old Grit) is just one wall adjacent to a nice stone lined open shaft. Access possible by footpath but to view the East Grit engine house please get permission from the farmhouse.
