Dunn Well Pit (Rainton Group/North Hetton) Coal Mine (United Kingdom)

Believed to have been started before 1812, However its history is not that well known, Although believed to have been part of the Rainton Group which was a cluster of mines owned by two rival companies, between Londondary, Lord Lambton and North Hetton co. The nearest Mine to the North was the Nicholson Pit which this mine possibly started off as an airshaft for The Nicholson Pit, (a Lambton Mine) whilst the nearest to the South was the nearby Hazard Pit. (sunk 1818, North Hetton Mine) either way these all fell into the hands of The Lambton Group when The Londondary group sold their Mines. It is unknown when this mine closed but it looks officially around 1900 (like most of the Rainton group) However the shafts were left open and just like the Rainton Mines appears to have been reopened at various times.
