Buckler Dale Level Lead Mine (United Kingdom)


Correct name not known. NGR 01914 36834. Starts on the bank of the River Wear, north of Buckler dale house. Arched crosscut level driven through river terrace material. Eventually enters the shale below the Four fathom Limestone. Cuts two parallel faults, presumed to be Dryburn Vein. Blocked by roof collapse join vein. The crosscut section is half filled with sand topped by pebbly shale. Small water flow which emerges from the final roof fall.Sheep bones throughout.
