Box Flat Coal Mine (Australia)


Box Flat was an underground mine in the Ipswich coalfield and the site of one of Queensland's worst recent mining disasters on the 31st July 1972. Attempts to control an underground fire resulted in the deaths of 17 men and on the day another later from his injuries. Location indicated is the site of the memorial - to be updated in due course.
