Hi I'm searching for any information/photos of the men that worked at Highley/Kinlet mines...I've found out that my great grandfather (Spider Matthews) a carpenter who worked at these mines, I've found alittle clip that said he built the wooden headgear at Highley? Does anyone have any more information about this, or photos please...

Hi

There's a very good book by David Poyner and Robert Evans called "The Wyre Forest Coalfield" published by Tempus books ISBN No 0-7524-1762-2 with a photo of the original wooden headgear at Highley. Hope this helps.

The book is long out print sadly - there was a nice little display of stuff in Highley , Dave Poyner would probably be able to help you . Send your email address on a PM and I will forward your query
