First opened in 1843 with an adit started on the lode driven over180' with a whim shaft sunk down to it. Further development occurred in spates, as the mine did not work continuously. It was last operated in 1906. IP: 178.167.164.53

I made a sketch-plan of Dhurode for Dana Exploration in 1987, which is available via the Geological Survey of Irelands Online Minerals Open File Viewer http://gis.dcenr.gov.ie/imf/imf.jsp?site=ExplorationCompanyReports

The Guildhall Library, City of London, holds a prospectus for the Dhurode Copper Mining Company (c.1852). Other companies include Barytes Company of Ireland (1853), and companies at Castletown, Clonakilty, Coosheen, Cappagh, Mizen Head. There is a listing in the latest Newsletter (58) of the Mining Heritage Trust of Ireland.

Many thanks. I did have a copy of WC once, but I must have sold it. I was hoping to find the survey from the website that was quoted.

I actually found the book !

I thought I'd left it in Ireland but rang the mother in Cork and she said it wasn't there. Found it in the car !

Good bit on Dhurode but no survey. Seems to have been a bubble mine too. Will get the relevant stuff up here if you want ?

Dana drilled about 8 holes in the late 1980's at Dhurode and Irish Metal Mining drilled maybe ten holes there back in the 1960's. From what I can see on the GSI site most found mine working cavities and very little vein material of note. Diane Hodnett's book on "The metal mines of west Cork" has a good description of Dhurode on p 65-80
