Story has been going on for ages but at least they are admitting responsibility now.

That is outrageous!!! Health and safety over-kill....

So what are they now going to do about it all???

In Cornwall, the emergency services try and train alongside the mine rescue services, but in other areas..... well.....

A can of worms could be opened regarding this!

My other half knew Alison.... She says she was a lovely lass (her dad actually built the house my other half's dad lives in thats how tight knit the community is!!)
I suppose if humility is too big a task for the chiefs of the emergency services, hopefully at least surely they could learn from this abortive rescue effort!!!

... although they have refused to apologise. An apology would at least have allowed them to recover a bit a respect by showing some humility. Appalling.

Well said Peter, sufficient expression of regret even would have seemed more human, and understanding of their vast under-performance in the whole matter.

An apology has now been made but only after Mr Salmond suggested it might be a good idea.

Don't think Roy needs to reply. Given the same scenario in Cornwall i can quite easily see the same situation arising given the shambolic organisation we have at the moment. I would sooner trust my life to a couple of mates. IP: 95.149.39.139

One day this will happen in Cornwall and if someone hadn't altered things to:-

1. Send the wrong people.

2. Insist that time consuming protocol is adhered to when the right people turn up

....maybe that person would still be alive.

But, in any bureaucracy process is more important than practice, even if life is at stake.

At least when a lawyer says "Can I see your method statements", it's in a nice folder, rather than being scribbled on the back of an old map. Laugh

The rescue was a cockup from start to finish, compare it with the rescue's that have taken place in the past week from mines where procedures are in places, multiple agencies all working to gether to ensure safe and efficient working between everyone involved, 2 rescues in the last week and both sucessfully achived. if all services work together the job gets done and the right people are there. I have plenty to say but I'm not too sure you would like or understand the context in which I, and many others in Cornwall, am saying it.
Therfore.... to recap.....I'M SAYING NOWT! Flowers

The other rescues that have involved professional mines rescue, have been run and coordinated by them, hence all runs smoothly as an incident at a working mine, the mines rescue team are in charge. If lives are at stake, the proceedure is normally to get in (if its safe for the team to do so), and get the casualty out. Once all is on surface one can argue and point fingers.

I do wonder if our BA trained team would be called to assist in the event of an incident at a non-working mine in Cornwall and who would be in charge. I know who should be.

As for you comments Roy, nuff said Shocked

I'm with Roy on this one too. And I also have nothing good to say!

Has this thread been taken down?
Why? Everything here is in the public domain and conducive to good debate, especially where the subject is to do with the safety of mine explorers and the services available to them should bad luck befall them.

Edit - Strange.......it seems to back on the home page again now.
