Personally I find this to be in poor taste.
I worked at Apedale and can still remember fatalities.
There will still be living close relatives of those killed.
If you go to the website of those running the event, they seem more interested in selling you things.

Totally agree mate. I had relatives that were killed down the pit and up here in the villages where many folk were wiped out in disasters, its still remembered. And its nowt to be taken lightly. The disasters and deaths up here in Northumberland are still felt in the communities and not forgotten, as is right.

Hmmm

As this is a non-commercial web site it would have been nice to have been contacted (as Mr Ed did with the first aid training course before posting that) before adding a commercial event.

I've taken the event off the events list, but as it says it is raising money for the Apedale Heritage Centre have stopped short at this stage of deleting the forum message.

I agree with you staffordshirechina.

I guess they've agreed to it because they need funds?

For those interested more in the Apedale Heritage Centre and Mining Museum the web site is here http://www.apedale.co.uk/ and mentions volunteering.

This is just Sick,to anyone who has lost someone in a Mining accident.
And if Apedale are low on funds, this kind of fund raising is in bad taste, surely they could come up with better idea`s,they are Ex Collier`s are`nt they?

Or are the Head ones running the show, not Ex Miners?

Some are ex-miners, but from my experience those "in charge" have little or no mining experience Glare

They run these events at the Cleveland Ironstone Museum without any particular controversy (Loftus Mine - closed 1958).
http://www.northern-ghost-investigations.com/haunted-uk/north-east/cleveland-ironstone-mine.html

They do not however advertise them with the line, "Loads of Fatalities Occured Here" or similar as used in the original post...

A few years ago the TV Ghost hunt people wanted to film in the George & Charlotte at Morwellham I refused, my feelings being that it lacked dignity and respect for the men who worked and died in the mine. IP: 81.135.14.41

I would disagree completely, I have been there several times as we are loaning coal mining machinery to them. At all times I have only found ex-miners in charge and they certainly know what they are doing.

Yes, there are some who know their stuff, in fact worked with at least one guide (assuming he's still there). But have witnessed one who couldn't even distinguish between a compressed air & electric drill, and another "senior" person bluffing his way round underground trying to impress those that didn't know better! Apparently things have changed, but I'm not convinced.

Adrian,
You mention loaning coal mining machinery to Apedale.

You would`nt by any chance have a CA Pikrose 2 or 3,
And a CA fan?

Had a link sent me of the Shropshiremines trust just now.

Is that a Blast Pikrose 3 on the lowloader?looks like an air bag coming from it.
We are looking for a CA Pikrose 3 ,willing to swap an Electric Pikrose 3.
This is for a re-opening of a Smallmine in South Wales.
