I am seeking photographs and history of Wingfield Manor colliery, known as 'Oaky' to those who worked there I am told.
Also trying to find our if there was a commemorative plate produced.
Can anyone point me in the right direction?

Other than searching through the web and getting info from ex miners of these pits then you could try the Coal Authority Mining Records [web link] (based in Mansfield) whom have a large collection of photos etc.

From memory there is a plaque/board, I think about the old waggonway in the nature reserve running along bottom of Alfreton Golf Course. Not sure if there is anything about Wingfield Manor on it though.

Yes that's the link.
It's somewhere else in a recent reply to a similiar question.

Not sure why my link wasn't working

I take it you have seen the long PDF on the web on North Derbyshire Collieries. If not I was going to link it but couldn't work out how so have uploaded it.

Edit.

I've deleted it, realised it was copywrite. Sussed I think. Well nearly, you have to click the link at the top of the page. For some reason I couldn't get it work direct. I'm going for a large drink; ot two.

Thanx for trying but surely no reason you couldn't link to it. All you are doing is directing someone to it not stealing it... I know the site you mean well. The two photo's I found came off a mate and were sent to him by a lad in Worksop....

Known as 'Oaky' because it was also called Oakerthorpe Pit locally, a search shows 5 additional variants for the same place on here......

I recall one of the finest red-shale tips in the area burning merrily away there in the '50's/60's----.

N.B., not to be confused with Wingfield Park, just along the road a bit.

ps, Sorry to come late to the party, just thought someone might like to know Thumbs UpThumb Up

Grumpy old man who is thrown by links and other interweb trickery suggests this. Have a look at Robert Bradley's history of coal mining in the East Midlands for information. This on Fionn Taylor's mine rescue and more site. Brain is not working too well but Mr Google knows where to find them. Hope you find the info ok, regards Phil.
