I know we have several electronics geeks on here, Mike, Chris JC, Lozz etc, and wondering if anyone else has delivery problems with RS Components.
My correct address for shipping in in my customer account, but when reproduced on shipping labels it appears that their system tries to get 'smart' with it or something and sections are missed out or changed around.

This only started a few weeks ago.

I mostly buy from Premier Farnell with no issues, orders placed in the afternoon delivered next working day. Exceptionally good.
Maybe RS out to shed customers!

I can't help on that one, of the big companies I never used RS, only Farnell and that was some years ago, I'm old enough to remember when it was Radiospares, back then they were mainly selling stuff to the radio and television servicing trade, for which there was a considerable demand, that's the trade I served my time in so to speak.

Didn't they once trade as "Radio Shack", I seem to remember early computers in the 1970s?

Yep, they used to have actual shops too.

My brother in law was in charge of implementing their SAP systems years back so probably partly his fault.

Our system at work for some reason prints out purchase orders with the "United Kindom" bit of the address in Greek. Been like it for months, no-one knows why, no-one can fix it....Roll Eyes

Not that I'm aware of, I think Radio Shack was part of Tandy, I never had any dealings with them

We used to use RS almost on a daily basis at my last job and we were a very large telecoms hub. Never heard a complaint. Bought a cordless telephone from them 2 days ago and no delivery problems despite our postcode being shared with 8 other properties over a 1km radius! IP: 87.80.36.174

I use RS Components (used to be Radio Spares) regularly.
I haven't noticed any address mangling, but then again, the parcels have arrived, so I haven't paid much attention!

Chris.

P.S. They still have trade counters - my nearest one is Corby. Handy when you need stuff in a rush!

Ah yes, that's right, I remember them as purveyors of those types of remote control car that would only turn in one direction and then only if driven backwards.

Thanks for the feedback, but I struggle to see that this can only be happening to me.

I think that the software must be trying to be 'smart' in someway rather than just copying over the address I entered in my user account.

Its leaving out the name of my road, so obviously wont make sense to a delivery driver.
Now I live in "Stafford road" and the address is in "Staffordshire", so it may be seeing a repetition that its taking out.

How marvellous.

I wonder if my address option includes "West Midlands" as an alternative to "Staffordshire", it would be near enough and could work.

Its understanding how this rubbish works, or tries to.

Problem is, that not only do RS stock items that Farnell dont, but they are cheaper on some stuff, I compare prices. A batch of 20 switches were about £1 cheaper, so that was a saving of £20.

It mounts up over a 12 moth period as well!

No it was before DOS, there did not seem to be any user interface and I was puzzled. I dont really know much about those machines.
DOS was good, all the files went onto a 1.44 MB floppy, and the main file was Command.com which translated a command line to machine code. The were others, eg .bat - batch file ran a batch of commands, plus others.

Its still there in modified form as command prompt, cmd, but little used. I just use it to run network utilities such as ipconfig, and ping routers etc.

and there we are, running on top of Windows.

(click image to open full size image in new window)

The knowledgeable will spot 2 different networks, one on the 169.254 block, this is my local network of 4 machines, and the other 172.168 which is my Internet connection.

This machine was an ex company network, (upgrade every 3 years) Dell, 16 gigs RAM, Intel Quad core, 1 terra of HDD, bought second hand of eBay for £125, bare drive. I put jolly roger Win 7 ultimate on it.
The other on my desk has 3 hard drives, they 500 gig, going cheap on eBay, so bought them and put them all on the same machine with 3 operating systems, one on each drive, off a multi boot utility. So now I can run cheap old software that still does the job, old versions of Autocad etc.
