More Youtube Warriors. Corsham Police Four males were rescued overnight from the Box Hill stone mines. The rescue involved Wiltshire Police, Avon & Somerset police, Dorset & Wilts Fire service, Hanson UK and the Mendip Cave Rescue team, the group were brought to the surface at 03:55hrs this morning. -- The finest workers in stone are not copper or steel tools, but the gentle touches of air and water working at their leisure with a liberal allowance of time. I doubt that tons of concrete would be feasible because of the bats. Call out wasphoned in by their parents... Didnt have proper gear and im guessing they got lost somewhere around Cath and then tried to get out of backdoor. I wouldnt mind so much if the unofficial agreement with Hansons was still in place for bode fide cavers but with all these idiots going in I wouldnt be surprised if they do finally seal it for good. Plus, the better sites tend to be those that have access points with a "green" corridor into the wild beyond - an open hole in the middle of nothing means the critters have to run the gauntlet of predators as they visit the site. Or so I am led to believe following recent comments on a similar issue in Surrey. Hansons would do well to avoid the risk of a fine for contravening wildlife legislation. Bat protection groups are pretty hot on that stuff these days. Both explorers and owners have responsibilities to do the sensible thing. It's just a shame many explorers can't or don't want to understand this. IP: 91.125.156.131

I wouldn't put it past Hansons to seal it totally, they are a massive firm and could simply shrug off any fine the courts might impose. IP: 2.120.75.105

Sites can attract privateers who insist in putting themselves and others in danger and this was disastrous publicity for legitimate explorers and mine historians. It was a good trip and it was enjoyable. The second time a few years later, was a real contrast, with hoards of people wandering about in daytime clothes with just torches and no ppe of any sort, not even a helmet. The Cathedral was crowded with photo goons dressed in similar fashion, and the number of people that stopped us for directions was incredible, many looking for the way out! Social media is a two edged sword. It works to inform, but also offers invitation to the inexperienced looking for an adventure.
