Hi, has anyone been up the track that leads to the Croesor mine recently? Is it in okay condition?

Some friends and I were hoping to dive there this weekend but are thinking that might not be so smart given what the weather might do to the 'road' (i.e. make it slippery as well as scary).

Thanks
Jas

Not to mention all the bad PR and the fallout that would result from a callout / rescue situation. We are only just out of 'lockdown'....

Private track, not a right of way, (a quick look at an OS map will show you that), and I wouldn't fancy being on the end of the bollocking you'll get when the farmer snags you on the way out.

Normally, I'd say ask for permission, but I very much doubt it's coming given the situation we find ourselves in at the moment.

If you really can't walk up, then wait until next summer, ask for permission, and take a suitable vehicle.

Thanks, I take your point, but diving-wise, guys in my club have discussed with farmer so we at least have permission if perhaps not the weather to get up there.

That's Interesting. Which Club? (I know the farmer as well).

Years ago in pouring rain the farmer gave me a lift down, standing on the tow bar and holding on with my hands. I was his gate opener.
An experience I will never forget and have no wish to repeat.

People in the know have deemed the upper section of track too risky for a 4x4 to descend fully occupied for fear of it sliding over the side.

Its popularity with those unwilling to walk and as the track doesn’t have a vehicular right of way, last chat was one of the lower gates is going to have a shiny lock.

It is a Public RoW (footpath) so said gate would need to not inhibit walkers. Otherwise said padlock would be removed which used to be permissible, not sure if that is still the case.
