There are plenty to go at some cave and mine diving as well , if they interest you buddy . There is a lot of work goes into them especially the underwater ones as we have to make the places safe with lines etc before we can do any video or stills .

Yes I know what you mean with the chest beating telling people just how dangerous the thing is that they are doing , these in my experience are people especially in the cave diving world that are very new and newly qualified to dive they do like, as we find, to big themselves up rather a lot !. What we love doing is when we are doing some surface filming and there are divers there is to act dumb and listed to the S**T they spews out of there mouths , its so easy all you have to do is say " oh I couldnt do that its far to dangerous " LOLLaugh

Haha I bet that’s funny as f**k I have never done diving don’t think I would dare to be honest it looks so amazing I have to admit , I think the only way I would ever dare would be to try it in a cave tunnel or a mine tunnel that’s like 8ft high and was 6ft full of water to find out what the experience was like first , just scares me the thought of it but fair play to everyone who does it threw the videos I can see why !

Also has any one dived maenofferen? Or would it be a to far walk to the dive point with kit ?

We are old school buddy and do long walks we have just finished Diffwys that's a hump with dive kit, as for Maenofferen we just haven't got round to it, we really need to finish Rhiwbach off before we start a new one although we have dived a sensitive area that is amazing with gin clear visibility.

I suspect Maenofferen doesn't have the same romance of mystery, having only shut in 1999 there are still people who clearly remember the lower levels. Infact there are explorers on here who explored the lower levels before they flooded.

Yes, used to go in there with my lady friend by Cooks Level. The lights would be in there and we used to quietly sneak down the incline, although no one about, lights on a timer or something.

Did explore the lower levels.

More recently, I would visit and switch the lights on in the BV incline winch house, eat my lunch, then switch them off when I left.

All history now.

I would put the closure date at 1997, the last shipping notes were around then and this sits with my personal memory.

No disrespect to conflicting opinion.

It is flooded below Floor E. I have been to Floor F (in the mid 90s. There are G, H, and I below that. They were allowed to flood in about 1974-75. IP: 86.178.52.134

Interesting guys what would you estimate the total depth of water in there, it sounds like some decompression calculations need to be done ?

As a rule of thumb, levels are at between 60 and 70 foot intervals. Below "E" you have four floors so approximately 240 to 280 feet.

Plans do exist of the mine including those levels.

There is some serious decompression procedure issues to get to the bottom of here
