Exploring with Fighters - a warning to all mine explorers, cavers and URBEXers

This is a general warning to all mine explorers, cavers and URBEXers about a group called Exploring with Fighters.

The group is well known in URBEXing circles for their sensationalist videos and for bringing public attention to locations that responsible explorers have kept off-radar for years.

They have recently turned their attention to mines, and most recently Welsh slate mines.

I'm mindful many - probably most - of us have been places we shouldn't, so this sort of post always feels a bit hypocritical; but their explorations are always followed by click bait videos pushed out to a very large social media following. They have potential to do real harm to access arrangements and even to businesses operating in disused mines.

There is a mass of information about mines and quarries available online, including on here. But, if you are contacted by Exploring with Fighters then please do not:

- Give them any information that will help them locate or access sites
- Guide them places

I'm not going to give them the fuel of publicity, Google them if you wish.

I have linked this post to UKCaving and 28dayslater too. Most people on 28DL already think that the EWF group are bad news anyway.

I see they are now upset that they are getting some unwelcomed attention now according to there Facebook page I have no sympathy for them along with some others that are doing the same sort of thing to get the hits on there channels fair enough if your doing it to make a document to keep for the history but doing it for hits and so called hardcore explorering well that's only going to do one thing

Thanks for the info Simon. I must admit, before I started mine exploring, I used to be into the whole "urbex" thing and when I started going in mines I did post a few "reports" on the urbex forums. Nothing sensational, just pics and a few words, but back then I was a total novice and rather naive. I did not know about how some mines are sensitive and locations need to be kept under the radar. I had no idea about this, but eventually after a bit more research and after receiving some emails from experienced mine explorers, I realised it was not a good thing to do. I ditched the whole urbex thing and deleted my pics after that. I do wonder though, if people are so concentrated on making videos underground, it worries me that they may not be concentrating on navigating the mine safely, and could end up having an accident. Along similar lines, I see on "UK Mine Exploration" that C9C have been at it again, a YT film about exploring a coal mine, with a comment towards the explorers - from the Coal Authority. That's that place fcked. The name Antonio Llufriu is another which needs to be shunned - complete egotist with not a hint of regard for for future of the places with visit: using them only to further to heighten his own fame, as per the MailOnline article of a couple of years back naming a number of sensitive locations whose accessibility has since tightened further. At least that mob wear head protection, more than can be said for EWF. I wonder if their videos could be seen as an encouragement to risk. If someone emulates them and gets injured, could result in a legal action.

A lot of the videos made by more responsible people open with an appropriate warning about the risks and need for safety gear.

The 'Carbis Bay Crew' have the following to say:

A long time before teh interwebs, there were people going down holes and most of them belonged to caving clubs.

Caving clubs are great. People with beards (including the ladies) getting together to talk about holes, go down holes, compare prussick knots and drink weird real ales. Another pint of your genuine best jumping waggle dance creosote please barman!!

There are 2 sorts of people who get involved in caving/mine exploring. Those who are interested in history, geology, biology, science combined with the sporting adventure of brown adrenaline than going down a massive hole provides. A multifactorial orgasm of intellectual and glandular excitement and the joyous culmination of being mentally stimulated to an awesome calmness. It's like having a truly epic shag. These people are my brothers.

The rest of them..... well.

We had this woman called Mrs Parker at school. She had a moustache, her long dress looked like she had covered it in wallpaper paste and rolled around in a fresh grave. Her perfume smelt like a petrol drinkers penis. She was ******* scary. Do not get sent to Mrs Parkers room. She will make you cry. I don't really recall her shouting, but her whole persona was frightening and she was like the embodiment of a young man's fear. Women like Mrs Parker have husbands. I imagined her husband to be a John Major style character with a grey face, henpecked and impotent with a redundant tiny penis. I imagine last time Mrs Parker saw a penis, it turned itself inside out in fear and parked firmly between Mr Parkers lungs before she pulled it off in raging disgust or shouted at it until it shriveled in shame. Men like these join caving clubs and there, they gain the glory of Napoleon, the spirit of a tiger and most importantly, the moral highground gained looking after the interests of lefthanded lesbian trombonists, fwuffy animals and wittle childwen, they exert control through the medium of access agreements, gates, locks. They do this under the guise of safety, working with landowners, being the responsible people.

They are no more responsible than anyone else. It's just they have a Mrs Parker at home pecking their peck wounds.....and a micro-penis.

The CBC formed in about 2005 on an interwebs page on a now-defunct site called Mine-Explorer co uk. Someone asked who some of the CBC Grand Pubars were in terms of their official affiliation and Kim said "Well, I suppose we're the Carbis Bay Crew". The rest is history. Padlock champions of the Tamar Valley, the Plimuff Caving Group accused several of us of being lock choppers and running around at night in camo gear.

Guilty as charged!

This is a fantastic hobby and some of these people set themselves up as judge and jury and you must go through their criteria and control to experience a limited tour of "their hole".

The attached thread shows the typical sort of caving club nonsense in it's worst light. Clucking chickens may seem all fine and dandy, but leave them to it and you'll end up with one with no feathers. The pecking order!

Well the CBC doesn't partake in this sort of nonsense. Instead we just enjoy going down holes and whoever wants to come out with us is welcome. No politics here! Apart from locks. I forget, is a 24tpi blade better than a 36 at cutting bars....

A couple of our droogs went to wales to some extreme beard festival where hole crazed misfits drink themselves into paralysis and meet their fellow brothers. The UK Caving posse mentioned C9C in a negative manner, who were reported as being the Welsh version of the CBC, these people are a part of our tribe. Heil Hacksaw!

On behalf of the British Caving Association and UK Cavers, we would like to note that breaking into places is a part of the sport, as is running around in camo gear hiding from security guards.

Enjoy it folks. We only have one brief life and eventually, everything will be melted by the sun, including your caves and their locks.

There's a predictable debate on their Facebook page which roughly goes:

- "Look, we all go places we shouldn't, we just don't splash it all over the internet and risk future access in return for 'likes'"

- "The cavers just want to gate everything, LOL"

- "No, they're the ones who have negotiated access agreements and stopped places from being sealed off permanently"

- "I've got a portable angle grinder, LOL"

- "Portable angle grinders are no use against 4 tonnes of concrete"

- "Cavers just like putting gates on stuff, you won't stop me, LOL"

(repeat ad nauseam)

I'm not a member of any "official" club and haven't been for a few years. I think anyone on here will know that I'm rather antagonistic towards access restrictions for the sake of them, and some will know that I can open most locks without damage, or trace. Many established people don't like me, but even I think this lot need to wind some necks in before bad things happen to them, their property or the mines they "explore".

What I have said on there, I will say anywhere, including face to face. Certain individuals need to stop media-whoring sensitive sites. We've all been to X, Y and Z sites that we really shouldn't be going to, but hey're whored out for likes, thumbs up, and ad revenue. Certain landowners will resort to concrete, bang (already happened), or other means to shutter these places. Granted, the odd person elsewhere has put up vids, but if you take a look they won't name them, or give access details, let alone chuck all of those up in full HD.

I don't care where people go, as long as they're not cocking it up for everyone else. Exploring with the knuckle dragging inbreds and C9C (Tony Lluf, I'm still looking at you) are doing exactly that though.

A lot of these idiots have a short attention span, and will soon move onto something else. They don't care about the history of these locations, would have no interest in learning about the lives of the people who once worked them, and things like that. Its just a place to act like an imbecile for a couple of hours and document it to get some much needed attention. In six months time chances are they will move on to something else, hopefully anyway. I have to admit that the image of Mr Dixon brandishing his tattoos and silly mask is something I find mildly irritating.

They know very well where it is...few years back, after much exposure on likes of 28Days, original brick portal disappeared behind wall of concrete, then steel bar went over the ventilation/bat access slot when it was attacked and widened...now the c9c geniuses have made it clear that the other way in is do-able, that'll get the CA treatment a.k.a concrete, and plenty of it Thumb Down

Even if access back at the portal remains possible, with the secondary drift plugged, that'll ****** up air-flow nicely Sad
