Posted: 10/05/2008 19:49:55 Reply | Quote Hi Jomi Full underground member probably isn't very clear... it relates to the insurance, the BCA offers two levels; caving (i.e. mine exploring underground in our context) and non-caving (i.e. insured for surface activities). We're not intending to offer a non-caving / surface mine activity category unless there is significant demand. This is in part due to not wanting this association to tread on the toes of established clubs. However what the 'full underground member' gives you is the underground BCA insurance that many club controlled mines require for access. Hope that helps. -- No sir, this here will do just fine IP: 83.148.135.213 |

Land owners are just as twitchy re surface remains of which many on this site will want to access in order to photograph / record - the insurance can help when negotiating with farmers and the like I know. Posted: 12/05/2008 12:54:40 Reply | Quote As Vanoord says, if there's demand for this we'll offer it. We founded this society with genuine good intentions. To help people gain legitimate access to locations that require insurance and to help us arrange visits to those many, varied and interesting locations. Response has varied from that it is in competition with existing clubs to it not being a complete enough offering. At some point I'll probably compile all the questions in this thread into a FAQ. -- No sir, this here will do just fine IP: 83.148.135.213 |

Posted: 13/05/2008 21:48:25 Reply | Quote There are two historic societies in the village where I live. In 17 years i have been once. There are more in the town about 3 miles on. Also there is the Forum Tanybwlch which has been going for about 30 odd years. I try to go when i can. Originaly they got an ex miner, tracklayer etc etc that worked or was working at a slate or other mine/quarry to have a general chat about their experience, and it was recorded on tape and kept safely. I am sure many of us would be interested in for example Jagman giving a talk about his experience over the years of mine exploration. Or someone talking about some cave network in Yorkshire etc. etc. I don't know how it would work as we are scatterd all over the country. Just an idea that came to mind. -- Art thou a figment of mine imagination? Or be I one of thine? IP: 195.93.21.71 |

The BCA administrator has been away for a week so hopefully the membership cards will be processed next week. Will PM you all as soon as I hear. Read the small print if you are insured, you may be pleasantly suprised! I would be very suprised if a household policy includes the land owners indeminty bit, which is the crucial point as far as the site owner is concerned, not any visitors personal liabilty insurance. As far as I know, the BCA policy is pretty unique in providing this. -- If things dunner change - the'll stop as the' are. IP: 91.110.118.66 Edited: 25/05/2008 18:25:28 by Mr.C |
