ROAD CLOSURE OVERNIGHT for repairs

A44 west of Llangurig 1900 to 0600hrs "until Saturday".

If the A44 is closed.

At Llangurig island go left to Rhyader and then right "Elan Village", but then turn right onto the road through Cwmystwyth. Might be a sign "Devils bridge, mountain road" or similar. Keep going past the mines as then past Pentre farm on the right. Take a minor road to the left just past an interpretation board guarded by a tree trunk on the right. When you meet a junction, keep straight then left over the bridge to Pontrydygroes and on to Llanafan.

Alternatively, those of you with a decent 4x4 and balls of steel can turn left onto the minor road at Pencrugyn (1.2miles after the roundabout). It's sealed until the county boundary at Nant Diliw, then deteriorates after a ford, coming out a few miles up-valley of Cwmystwyth.

You would not believe places I have driven in an ordinary motor car, and not damaged them
Trick is to keep your wheels on the high ground

Could not do the ford though, not enough clearance, car would float off.

Apologies for my non-appearance on Sunday, this was due to having had a wisdom tooth out earlier in the week then got an infection. I went back to the dental hospital yesterday and they've hopefully sorted it but I've been put on antibiotics so no beer for me until Saturday.Cursing

I am back home suffering from Post NAMHO Stress Disorder.

It was worth the effort though, and everyone had a good time. We were lucky with the weather though, and without the last minute parking field we would have been in trouble.
Feedback from local people is good. They enjoyed my Thursday evening talk and and have commented on the good behaviour of everyone.

My most stressful day was Friday when I took 4 groups through Cymystwyth Lefel Fawr on my own, 10 in one!

There will be an in depth write up eventually, for the record and benefit of future organisers.

I was looking forward to your presentation, but as it happened your absence allowed me to relax with my 45 minute presentation which I was planning to condense on the fly to 30 mins to fit it in!

Well done.

An excellent Conference with something for everyone, good grub and beer.

We had a great time u/g : 2 trips prepping, 2 trips leading and 2 trips being led by others. Paul T's direct ascent of Nant Rhiwrugos was great fun as we ticked off the various entrances.

I suppose we will just be back to hauling steel and concrete again next year.

Make sure you give yourself a break and relax with a bit of gentle martial arts.

I did not wear myself out at all, but in honesty my poor brain struggled with it all. Yes, I would do it again, I have learned a lot and next time the task would be easier. But would appoint a trip coordinator as this was where I tended to foul up a bit.

I would also get parking sorted well in hand, this year it was down to weather good luck and can not be counted on.

My best idea of the lot is undoubtedly the 5 day event with 4 nights camping, with the off peak nights at half price. This not only allowed more people to participate in the trips but offset costs considerably.

A full report will be published in due course, but I have the accounts to complete.

Also, just to kill a rumour
The gate post knocked down at the entrance to the camping field is a nonsense I have heard. It was in that position on Wednesday before anyone arrived. Someone may have inadvertently caught it, but it was already down as on Wednesday I tried to move it further out of the way and found it fast.
