A couple of nights ago J25GTi and I did a quick tourist trip down to the 15 fathom level in Wheal Fanny at Devon Great Consols.

I was appalled to find that someone had been busy with a white spray can. A star within a circle comprising two arrows has been stencilled and a freehand Cornish flag drawn.

Given that to get to this spot requires the descent / ascent of three pitches this is not the work of kids but an experienced mine explorer. I am staggered that anyone who has taken the trouble to learn the vertical skills to explore a mine should treat the mine environment with so little respect.

Having chatted to some of my mates it turns out that the star and circle stencil has been recently appearing in mines across the south west.

If the perpetrator is reading this I have nothing but contempt for you, you worthless piece of cr*p.

I am not an expert on graffiti tags but my reading of it is that it signifies that the guy who did it is very insecure because of his very small willy and he is hoping that people will be impressed by the graffiti and will think that he has a very big willy. IP: 86.136.235.69

Shouldn't be a problem , just a bit of hassle. A churn brush and some nice acidic water should do the job. I've got some time off between Xmas and New year so I'll probably get round to it then.

Sod that brushing rubbish.... That takes effort.

I'll get the environmental chap at work to donate some industrial strength graffiti remover to the cause. I'll drop it off to you during the week

Graffiti or the offending very small willy?
I've got a magnifying glass if that would helpSmile

On the paint front the Legendary Roy Fellowes found that Bitter Lemon worked surprisingly well - or I am imagining conversations...

And back in my day, anyone worth their salt didn't need a stencil. Bloody amateurs.

Although, the attempt at the cornish flag, shows why they need the stencil! Maybe art wasn't a good subject for them at school....

Bitter lemons true. I drink gallons of the stuff and always have bottle with me. Take a mouthful, spray it on, give it a couple of minutes, then wire brush.

Reading this from far away, it would appear to me that the guys who carried out this vandalism, are making a statement.
which is - we have been down this mine and 'done it'.
And to prove it we have left our mark.

Well yes, but thats what you did 20 years ago before the internet to prove you had "done it".

Now you can put a selfie on Facebook the second you step outside for all your friends to 'Like' Innocent

I'd say some internal "beef", I don't have an axe to grind in any which way, because I don't care nor get involved with politics. Do my own thing my own way.

But, could tamarmole confirm that there has been no damage to the locks etc? If not this must be someone with access to a key etc...

The mind boggles on how some people have no regard for anything these days. To spray paint underground is disgusting and if the culprit/s are found then they better steer clear of certain people...

I was wondering if this was a legal, or illegal entry... probably the latter... Also... I wonder how they would feel if their vehicle was spray painted whilst they were underground enjoying themselves with some pathetic logos?

Sorry Rick... can't offer to help, as my days of SRT are behind me now... I know you'll do an excellent job in removing the offending paint work, and hopefully you'll bump into the offender/s...

Regards Tin Miner
