My dad (Alan Greaves) did his surveyors apprentership at Manor Colliery in Wakefield. Circa 1965-1969ish.

I am making him a memory board displaying all the pits he worked down. As this was his first surveyors job i felt it was an importaint one to get on there. However i cannot find any "memorabilia" from the Manor colliery anywhere.

Can anyone point me in the right direction? Im looking for lamp/pay and going down tokens aswell as any old forms/bills or other paperwork with the Manor pit name on them. Anything at all really that will bring back memories.

He later finished his apprentership at Sharlston Colliery in Wakefield, then moved to Prince of Wales, Savile (during the strike), gascoigne wood, walton and allerton bywater.

Thank you for your time, any suggestions of where to hunt would be appreciated. Thumbs Up

Hi Ruth
I knew your father in the NCB North Yorkshire Area - I was the Area Geologist, so myself and my staff worked with him and other surveyors. Manor as I am sure you know was only a small pit compared to some of the others Alan worked at.
I would imagine that the National Mining Museum at Caphouse may have material about Manor, which their library would let you have copies of - Checks might be a different issue - they are quite rare. Of course there are the special plates, now very collectable. There was one done for the old North Yorkshire Area - with little pictures of each colliery around the edge. Rob Vernon

Is the National Mining Memorabilia Association still active? If so, they might be able to help.
