Intending travellers should note that the shale zone on Caplecleugh Cross Vein is on the move. A few days ago, a group had to shift some roof to get out - having entered via a higher level.

Carry a shovel!

A considerably cunning plan is being hatched to "do something about it". Let me know if you are interested in hard labour in neck deep water.

Update: a team of six gathered for wet shaley fun today. We shifted some of the first fall in the shale section, which hopefully will allow more water to drain out under the fallen material. We then removed a lot of shale blocks in the first narrow section and made travelling easier. We also took a view of the further reaches in this area - this has some 2 metre X 2 metre roof sections recently landed. This will need attention from chisels and pry bars. This section needs treating with the utmost care - some large pieces have fallen very recently. More dates to follow.

Myself and my friend passed through yesterday. Passing you working.
There appeared to be two sections with fresh falls, with what looked like more to go from the roof.
It was passable, but not plesant.
Glad we did the through trip.

Only thing from me, I question the captions for uploaded photographs "heading towards Bog Shaft"?
Bog Shaft is over towards Smallcleugh along the Middlecleugh branch, left at Lavatory Box. Surely "heading towards Lavatory box junction" or .....Black Ashgill?

yes, Roy, I've probably not nailed the location in sensuo stricto.

Barely Passable Black Crosscut Between Soakings would probably be better Wink

I'll have a look at the plan and come up with a more accurate caption.

Steetleysurfer, good to see you if only momentarily!

I think "Lavatory Box" junction is very evocative, also a possible hint those uninformed explorers who expect sticks of explosive......

Roy is absolutely correct in using the name Lavatory Box junction.
We invented it some 30 years ago, using it to describe our initial explorations of Capelcleugh. These were subsequently taken over and considerably expanded by Roy and Heb.
As Roy correctly stated, left turn is to Smallcleugh, right to Capelcleugh shaft.
Glad you still use the name Roy.
