We were chatting about the RFDCC Xmas retro trip yesterday whilst on the way to Old Ham. Electric lights are banned and we were speculating with the advent of LED lighting how long it would be before Oldhams are allowed on this trip.

Not long! We did an incandescent trip about a year ago and it was hard going! Oldhams weren't bad, but the Petzl Gloom was shocking - it just cast a dull orange ring about 10 feet in front of whoever was wearing it.

That's right, i was using one- you lot kept asking why i kept getting lost in the cwmorthin chambers- it was coz i couldn't see the way out!
Laugh

And my awful lamp chewed up batteries like it was going out of style, in addition to making a Petzl Gloom look good!

I'm guessing from the way all the charity shops in Port have sold out of approprate style waist coats this could be a popular trip (I may not have a waist coat the way things are going).

I have a spare plain black waistcoat - I think size 40/42 if that's of any use to you Owain? It's not strictly Victorian in appearance, it doesn't button up very high - it's the one I wore last year. You're welcome to borrow it if you like?

Hymac and Llion - thanks very much Thumbs Up

Everybody got the note about meeting up at the Cwmorthin car park at 12?

Yes please Simon Flowers , my AWE Aldermaston donkey jacket isn't that authentic either but looks the part from the front.

I did a trip of this sort some years ago, you could soon tell the old-school cavers used to carbide lamps from the rest Smile

Looked great this, those sepia photos in the Cwmorthin album are fantastic, looks a bit like a Poldark episode in a slate mine rather than tin Big Grin IP: 94.192.172.154
