Anyone know when and why they removed the headframe after the closure?
Thanks

This has remained in place to save Lord Falmouth re-applying for planning permission should any mining resume,

I'd understood at the time that Geevor had examined the Botallack sett in the 80s and written it off as not warranting the investment, deciding to concentrate on reserves further North.

It was also my understanding that the main mine was pretty much 'knacked' in its last years, so that there were few if any remaining reserves and no real prospect of re-opening

I'd be open to being told otherwise?

I guess they may have planned a similar kind of operation to the Victory shaft incline via Allen's shaft, bypassing the need for extensive horizontal tunneling through 'knacked' workings and going straight for the deeper seaward reserves?

it was indeed my understanding long ago that a second - Botallack - sub-incline was planned, I believe it appears on the survey model although it was never constructed. However this is from the Victory side, not Allens Shaft.

I'd understood that the Allens Shaft refurbishment was an alternative to this, but eventually all possibilities were dropped following the 1980s tin price slump

Somewhere, amongst all my junk, I have the shaft signals sign from that shaft, I liberated it from the the Queens arms when they were having a refirb along with a few other Geevor things.
Any use to anyone ?

I'll try and find it, I think I also have a sign to do with the ventilation fan, that was bigger.
Anyway anything Geevor you're welcome to as all I want is the chance to take a few shots.
Cheers

ps do you know Jeff from the St Just mines research group (I was one of the first members, but I haven't been for a while).

I've just been talking to Geoff in the pub - he's very active, especially underground and puts me to shame. If we can sort out a date, we can have a mooch round some of the bits at Geevor which are usually locked up and are worth photographing. IP: 94.195.58.209
