Yeah there's more BUT only if you ask nicely and JAGMAN says yes (he knows what I'm going to post) Devil

Yeh ok Wormster, as long as long as its between friends I'm content.
The mine manger has been very good to us over events of a couple of summers ago, I (and others) owe him a lot, hence the very cautious approach to anything regarding the place

As kids we used to play on the tips at Aberllefenni. I don't think they mind as long as you stay above ground and act sensibly and don't cause damage. There are public footpaths which pass Hen Gloddfa and another on the Foel Grochan side which I think takes you past the adit above the valley floor adit - not sure of numbering. It is securely gated. Its deceptive, nearly all the levels work through the same chambers so several chambers have or used to have 4 levels running through them although the upper levels sometimes just open into the void. the pits below the lower level are mostly flooded. Because they are so big they are probably only 10 or so chambers in the mine proper. The 1st chamber was probably originally 5 chambers worked through until they became one

No not all of them but over half do
Don't even think of abseiling in Big Grin you'd never make it back out, at a rough guess the shallowest daylight chamber is 350 feet to the bottom with the bottom pit flooded.
Its a beautiful mine and I do have hopes that one day some form of access will be allowed/doable.
As it stands, if the owner has any problems with break ins he has instructed that the adits be blown rather than just filled in. As they are now they could be re-opened in a day with a digger, the mine manager had to work very hard to persuade the owner that infil would be sufficient.

Seem to have been, hence several impressive cranes on the surface, it would appear that eventually as they got deeper it was easier to put tramways out to surface and down inclines. The multi level chambers have cranes up on the higher levels so blocks were evidently hauled upwards to take out of the mine

I was wondering (seeming as I have a thing for this mine) if anybody know's if the pictures of the red crane round the back of the mine, with its drop of around 350 ft next to it, if you can get access to the bottom of that large shaft, ie through and dropping inside of the mountain, where the adit is by the crane?
If I remember right if you walk into the adit by the crane the was a small off shoot to the left with a shaft, not that big but a big drop!!..with if I remember an old rusty ladder pinned into the top off it. My friend, who now own's a cycle shop in Machynlleth, wanted me to climb down it, hey I'm still here, so you can guess I said NO!!! Crying
