I was looking at slings on one of the online caving supply shops and there was loads of different lengths from 30cm up to over 2 meters. I havent got much money and I just want some for rigging of scaff bars etc. What would you folks recommend as the most useful length to get?

Any advice is most appreciated, thanks Smile

If you can only afford one, my personal thoughts would be to get a big one.

You can always just wrap it around something small numerous times, whereas you'll never be able to wrap the small one around something big if you need to.

That's a lot of space in your bag though on top of ropes, krabs, mallions, srt kit, cameras, tripods, torches, dinner, drinks, etc.

Something just long enough to wrap round a bit of rail or iron pipe seems lighter/cheaper.

I suppose so, but in the grand scheme of things even a large one is fairly light and compact compared to the rest of your gear.

Just to contradict my own advice though, I only every take the smallest one of my set of three.

Cheers Bri. I'm not able to get out this weekend and I may have a trip on next weekend but after that I am fairly free to get out about once a fortnight so will try to arrange something soon. Cheers Smile IP: 90.203.50.151

Those big slings Vanoord has acquired are pretty handy. I'm looking forward to finding a giant redwood to ab off. The sling might just make it round the trunk... IP: 83.148.135.213
