This is the company that the CIC in my club runs
He does srt training and caqn arrange gear and places indoors
mainly based in the peak but reguly goes to wales as well

"Courses can be arranged at all levels, from novice to advanced SRT as well as self-rescue. Individuals and clubs wishing to improve their techniques can be catered for, as can schools and youth groups requiring 'taster' sessions."

I don't mind arraning this (I've said this before I know...) but would need to know the demand is there. Unless anybody else wants to have a go at arranging something that is, but otherwise, if you're interested in SRT training (would need to be in one location which might make it awkward) then just indicate in this thread. Ta.

Our university caving club runs weekly SRT training sessions in Durham. These are for the benefit of club members, but our membership is open to anyone, so pretty much if you want to learn SRT and you live around here, you'd be welcome to turn up. (We can provide all equipment needed)

If anyone's interested, details are here [web link]

If there are AN users that want SRT training in the Lancashire / Manchester area I would be more than happy to do a training day myself for people, nothing formal, just if you are new to it, see you in action, give pointers, point out bad boo boos etc... Some nice sandstone quarries around to do it in, especially on a nice Autumn day

I am by no means an instructor, but have been checked out by one when we all first started SRT (for our own piece of minds) and we have COMRU members as part of our group which always advise.

This is just a thought, but would a session of SRT training be best at somewhere like Nenthead. I'm sure there must be an old quarry face, cliff or something in the vicinity that's not too daunting for beginners.
This posting is purely selfish because I work permanent backshift and can't attend anything in the evenings but I'm getting so desperate to find training, I was considering taking a few evenings off and going from Carlisle to Pete's club at Durham.
If Nenthead were a venue, folk could do a bit of training and still have time to explore places

The three of us who have so far expressed an interest are widely dispersed geographically (Carlisle, Cambridge and Gwynedd). If we are looking for sessions suitable for all of us I think that (a) they will have to be at weekends (I can't do evenings either) and (b) somewhere central to us such as Manchester or the Peak District would be best, much as I fancy going back to Nenthead. Somewhere in the Peak would be good but please don't arrange anything around me, I'm astonishingly busy the next few months and now it looks like I'm moving house too! Surrender

If I can come I will, may even try and talk Derrickman into it....

will need to be a good strong rope Roll Eyes

he's just being cheeky 'cos I've still got my old Clog Descender in the back of the car.

did it in the Cadets, it was still called 'abseiling' in those days. Spent a week on an 'Arduous Training' course, being frozen and rained on in N Wales and abseiled 60ft out of a helicopter on the last day. Fired a Bren gun, rode a World War 2 BSA kept for the use of spotty cadets. Good stuff, bet they don't do THAT any more.

If possible I'd try to find your nearest club. Membership is a lot cheaper than hiring an instructor. They've usually got a good 'venue' and can loan gear. Not only can you learn the basics, but have the opportunity to try out other techniques, such as self rescue etc. IP: 86.146.4.79

Unfortunately my local club has no above ground "venue" and doesn't organise training, which is why I'm looking further afield. IP: 194.83.12.7

There was talk of people wanting some training in North Wales, a friend of mine is a qualified trainer and would be happy to put on a course if there are enough people, this would be a proper paid for/insured course, anyone interested?

Don't forget that under the framework of a club activity there is a BCA grants scheme to pay for training like this. Hire in a CIC but the BCA could pick up the bill.
Shout if you need more info. I'm a CIC but also an officer of the Derbyshire Caving association. I'm not touting for business as I'm mad busy but I do frequent N Wales and the Peak so might be able to help.
