Sometimes really mundane objects in mines and quarries can leave you scratching your head for years and never coming up with a definitive identification.

Sometimes it pays to have the views of someone else, with a mind uncluttered by half-theories or pre-conceived ideas.

If you have photos of odd things that you cannot properly explain, post them here and invite sensible comment!

Here's my first:

The context is in the text of the photo description. I have my theories, but I'll stay quiet in case they influence your thinking.

Any ideas?

If they are connected with mushroom growing could it be discarded wire from bales of peat?

Bales or other bundles of something, but not peat. THe compost was freshly composted horse manure and straw, done on site. My guess is we will never know unless we get lucky with an old photo, or by some lucky chance someone who knows about traditional mushroom growing sees this. Now this text in on the web, search engines will pick it up.

We have one or two other mystery objects to wonder about. I'll try to find some photos.

Anyone else got something?
