Hendre-Ddu Slate Quarry, near Aberangell, is listed as Hendre Ddu (without a hyphen) I have checked with the OS map and the Hendre-Ddu Cottages are named as that (with hyphen) as is the mountain Mynydd Hendre-Ddu. I note that the share certificate Carnkie has uploaded today for the quarry also shows a hyphen.

Could the database and album titles be amnded please?

Also, Carnkie, would the share certificate not be better placed in the quarry archive album rarther than the tramway archive? That is an area I must visit again, haven't been there for years! Nice map of the tramway Carnkie.

I've changed the DB but can't do anything about the albums at the moment. I've put the share certificate where you suggested and deleted it from the Tramway. As a matter of interest there is another Hendre Ddu in the DB. Is that okay?

Thanks Carnkie.

Yes, th other one is near Dolbenmaen. Whether it should, or should not have a hyphen, I don't know. I will try and find out.

I have just looked it up in Slate Regions of North & Mid Wales by Richards. He lists Hendre Ddu (Dolbenmaen) as having no hyphen.

However, OS gives both of thm having a hyphen so I would go with that for both sites.

For some reason the share certificate does not appear in the Hendre-Ddu archive album even though it says you have updated it!

The case of the disappearing share certificate. That sounds like an Agatha Christie title! Laugh

Actually there are three!

One is Hendre-Ddu Slate Quarry (near Aberangell) which has a hyphen in the main page but not the album page. Only Simon and the originator of an albu can alter an album title.
Another is Hendre-Ddu Tramway (again near Aberangell)
Thirdly is Hendre Ddu Slate Quarry (near Dolbenmaen) which should also have a hyphen, but hasn't.

I've got three but no quarry. Two mines and the railway, all now with hyphens, except the albums, which as you correctly point out I can't alter.

Yes, that is correct now Carnkie. Sorry I confused things more by refering to quarries rather than mines. I think only Simon (and maybe Vanoord) can alter album titles plus maybe the person who originally created them in the case of both of the mines that was Simon anyway!

Indeed I can, Mr.NearCfon; and I have done so! Big Grin

All "Hendre Ddu" albums are now "Hendre-Ddu" - well, as far as I can tell, anyway!

There appear to be two Wheal Uny mines listed, one in all capitals, the other not.
Should they be consolidated into one database entry ?

They should. One has only two photos in, one happens to be mine, so I'll PM Roy and ask him if he would kindly move his to the other entry and then delete one.

One of the most amusing spellings I have seen in recent years is the word 'Jwmpah'. Which is attempting to describe a 'Jympar', Jumper, or a 'Jumping bar'.
It is generally called a Jumper/Jympar as it was an early form of drilling the slate face before the introduction of pnumatic drills by jumping the bar up and down to form a hole when blasting.

I remember when a nipper (a long time ago) on the Llechwedd tour.

When the AV talked about using a tool other than a 'jumper' (with hilarious results) I wondered why a miner might stick his cardie down a hole.

There seem to be multiple copies of the same image in the gallery for BOSWEDDEN.
