In amongst the debate about getting free access they are arguing how then to gate some sites.

A *very* small number of sites do need gating or need to stay gated. Much as I'm all for open access, even I realise this.

Yes I agree with you "some" sites need control.
I see that you are in North Wales! Shocked (well someone has to be.)
Let's not start a debate about cliques gating places up there! Cursing

I remember now why I don't go to ukcaving site. You wouldn't think they all share the same interest and all want the best outcome for their sport. IP: 88.110.5.53

HAH!!

UkChaving, mostly a bunch of pompous twats blowing smoke up each others backsides! - I'm glad to be banned!

As for CRoW:

The only way it will evar be resolved is in front of a beak, until then its all smoke and mirrors!

(off soapbox and back in the cage!)

I dont really want to be drawn into the debate but I do wonder whether CROW is actually working for or against us.
It was CROW that precipitated the sealing of Cwmystwyth and probably other places, I also wonder about the new and often pointless fences that sprouted up everywhere like mushrooms.

It seems to me that start meddling and all you do is stir the pot.

Make a good signature this would, when my Zen wisdom runs dry. Laugh

Thanks Roy, I was pondering on voting "No" on the basis of it could stir up unwanted results. You have now made my mind up completely. "No" it is. Thumb Up IP: 78.150.217.113

They do indeed, and good for them. I have my own thoughts on the frequent outbreaks of bickering, and whether or not it is done deliberately!

The problem is that there are some people on UKC that have little tolerance for anyone that does not uncritically accept their World View, and have little sense of humour.

For myself, I find it hilarious to prod these clowns, though I grant you that others' mileage might differ on this....

BOOOO!! I was waiting for the trip, trap, of the trollbridge appearing over the horizon!!

BUT, as this is a very civilized place I know it won't end in a mudslinging match!

Droid: You are a naughty boy. I, on the other hand, am quite bemused to be accused of trolling when it suits the accuser, of course! Laugh We are, of course, quite safe here, where bickering NEVER happens...... Thumbs Up

Here you get discussion, there you get bickering.

Having come across to mine exploring from caving, it's refreshing to see how people co-operate and move forward in common cause. If there's disagreement it's hashed out over a pint, or on a trip.

The norm in caving seems to be open hostility.

Yes, I have always seen a difference in mindset between those who visit mines, and those who are only interested in caves. And the credit is on the mine explorer side, no doubt about it.

I voted yes now that some of the imbeciles seem to have largely gone away but with grave reservations. Primarily that a large number of cavers generally treat mines as little more than playgrounds and have little actual care, interest or love for them.

It also seems that a range of people are expecting CRoW to solve a wide range of problems, real, imagined or to which they contribute a great deal. There's no such thing as a panacea, most of the problems will remain and a long, boring series of recriminations will undoubtedly follow when the world turns out not to be perfect. Or when they continue to act like dicks.

As has been pointed out several times on UKC, a 'yes' vote doesn't guarantee anything except that the BCA will campaign for CRoW to include caves. Given the BCAs record for sorting out Dales access bicker....problems with organisation, that doesn't fill me with confidence. IP: 62.253.145.232

The moral of the story though is don't believe everything you read on the internet. Despite all the tosh spouted, active cavers go caving all the time in Yorkshire without any real problems. Nothing much is gated. You don't get clubs and individuals locked in eternal debates like in other areas, chopping locks and what have you.
