George Hall, one of the “founding fathers” of the Welsh Mines Society, and all round wonderful person, died on Sunday after a short illness.

I am sure that all our thoughts are with Nheng and George’s family at this sad time.

I will contact you with details of his funeral arrangements in the near future.

With great sadness

I am very saddened.
Many on here will not have known George personally, but will know of him.
He was in his late 80s but extremely fit, and prior to his illness, in very good physical shape. He was a very positive and assertive person, but extremely kindly with it, and a true English gentleman.

He never posted on websites and indeed was never connected to the Internet, and would have nothing to do with it. He did own a computer, and a rather elderly one at that, and had the habit of writing very elegant letters to people when he had something to say to them. I have quite a few and although some are about mundane subjects I have never had the heart to throw them away.

I must add my tribute to George, a founder member and former Director of the WMPT, President of the WMS.

He will be sadly missed in the Welsh Hills.

Although I didn't know George personally, I had heard much about the gentleman's kindness and helpfulness.

Thank you for all did in bringing 'Mining History' to the public.

God Bless and R.I.P George

Dear George
His passing is a great loss and I am sure that many people who had the privilege to know him will treasure his memory.
I will.
