The black smoke is carbon, the gas produced is acetylene which is a very dirty gas, unless the gas/air mix ratio is correct you will get lots of black smoke.

The first every LED lamp I bought about 5 years ago was a Wisdom lamp, although I don't use the headlamp anymore as there are things out there a lot more powerful. I still use the original batteries
