Canal side: two travelling water tanks repose amongst the rose bay willow herb 1967

Due to a shortage of water on the limestone uplands, cottages and line side dwellings had to be supplied with fresh water. This came via old loco tenders adapted for the purpose, often with one of the axles removed. These tanks were shunted into local sidings where the water could be tapped off as necessary.
