The scence at Surrender
Surrender Smelt Mill built in 1839 on a site that was previously known as Low Mills. Behind are the scant remains of the peat store and beyond the wider landscape, including Calver hill, where many bale sites have been discovered, a process of smelting ore that was used from Roman times until the 1500's.
