Polished coal, c 1983.

Later (my last) visit to this pit. The blackened band in the coal is were a haulage rope (most likely overtub) has constantly rubbed the seam on a slight curve, to a high polish. The ganister can be seen being squeezed under the weight. The main haulage road is just the other side of this pillar. Entrances now sealed, with almost no surface remains...
