Engine chamber in Deep Ecton. 1977

Very similar to the Clayton Level close by, (although not connected to it) Deep Ecton has a large engine chamber where the shafts descend beneath this adit level. Here, the remains of the inner end of Apes Tor level (some refer to it as a sough although it brought water into the mine rather than the other way round!) can just be discerned to the left of the figure. The inner end of the level once was in the form of a dam but was needlessly destroyed many years ago.
