Steamboat Gold Mine (United States)

The mine was the first significant lode gold mining operation in the West, north of California. It bought hardrock mining (tunneling) and milling to Oregon, techniques that later spread across the Pacific Northwest to far richer mining centers in northern Idaho and elsewhere.
