Cavanacaw mine is currently located along a minor road connecting the B50 to ther main A32 route approximately %km west-southwest of Omagh. The site covers an area of approximately 60 hectares in total.Planning permission to develop the site was submitted on 4th January 1993 for an opencast pit for the extraction of gold and silver and associated minerals.Following a public enquiry in 1994 the DOE Northern Ireland granted planning permission.Omagh Minerals Ltd controlled by the Canadian Corporation Galantas begun production in July 2007.
