Newbridge Colliery Coal Mine (United Kingdom)

This pit was sunk by John calvert in 1844. It was pumped and wound by an 1845 built beam engine supplied by the Varteg Iron Co. (The engine was re-erected and survives in the grounds of the University of Glamorgan). By 1869 the mine was owned by the fowler Bros and by the Newbridge & Rhondda Coal co by 1880. 489 were employed there in 1896. the mine closed in 1897 but the engine and its engine house were certainly in tact in 1912 and probably longer.
