Reputed to be ancient as stone hammers have been found there the mine was worked on and off from 1881 to 1913, mainly as "Silver Stream".
1881 was the main working period when 13 people were employed underground. 9 tons of lead ore were sold in 1883 which contained 144 ozs of silver, which is 16 ozs to the ton.
This possibly explains the naming and the attraction!
