The Fulwood veins are presumed to be the continuation of the Lodgefield/Richard's Vein system that was also worked in Levelgate, Douk's and Middlehope mines. Low Fulwood Mine is the lower of two workings in the vein in the Rookhope Valley and was driven to investigate the Great Limestone. A crosscut from Boltsburn West Level, lower down the valley, connects with the mine. Although marked as a lead mine on early OS maps it also produced iron ore.
