Oil in this area was first discovered in 1943 and production started in the same year from 2 wells. 4 drilling rigs were in use by 1944 and the number of production wells had risen to 15 with an annual production of over 31.000 tons. The last oil was produced in 1990. Total production was 500,000 tons after 47 years from 62 wells.
