A tunnel driven 1810-12 to access workings in the House Coal and Goyt seams under Goyt's Moss and west of Axe Edge. Coal working through the tunnel appears to have finished some time after 1888 with the abandonment plan dated 31.12.1893 when the powners were the Buxton Lime Firms Co Ltd. Coal was tipped from tubs down into wagons on a short siding off the Cromford and High peak Railway. There were also four beehive coke ovens which provided coke to the Grin limekilns to make a higher quality lime for the steel industry.
