Cuvelette Nord (Puits Cuvelette) Coal Colliery (France)

The colleiry at Cuelette Nord, at Freyming, started sinking in 1930 and the shafts reached a depth of 600 metres. The mine was merged into the Merlebach unit in 1966 and coal winding ended at Cuvelette in 1972 although the shafts were kept open for ventilation of Merlebach. In 1983 a new headframe was installed, the shaft deepened to 1288 metres, and preparation made for skip winding. This did not commence and the site is now closed and abandoned.
