The closest I've been to getting underground recently was working on a re-creation of WW1 trenches in Surrey complete with dug-out's and a short section of railway.

Trips of interest have been few recently since I am off to Texas in August and need to conserve resources! However Saturday found me near the Wash on some errands and so I took the chance to walk out on the bombing ranges to see how the target barges are holding up.

Not underground admittedly but nice to get some fresh air and a stiff walk!

11/5/13 WCMS Reigate Caves Open Day

(click image to open full size image in new window)

As usual I spent most of the day in Barons Cave helping to show people round, it was quite quiet but did pick up a bit later on.

NAMHO 2013, 29/6/13, Taylors Level, Cwmystwyth

My first trip of the weekend with Roy into Taylors Level. A fine introduction to Cwmystwyth and a very pleasant trip.

NAMHO 2013, 29/6/13, Brynrafr Main Stope

A short but interesting trip into the main stope which had suffered a recent collapse leaving part open to day. Unfortunately several decomposing sheep made the trip rather fragrant!

A short but interesting level, again with a damp feel to it. A refreshing trip after a walk in the sunshine!

Another short trip into a very nice site, black mine pearls and a large stope. Another dampish entrance. A fantastic mine in a very nice location!

I was looking forward to this after seeing pictures of the waterwheel over the years. I was not disappointed!

Quite a short trip but well worth seeing the remains of the power train from the wheel to the pump + a pleasant walk in the sunshine and lots of knowledgeable chat over the surface remains which nearly made me late for dinner Shocked

A surface walk up Copa Hill combined with a look into Aldersons and Herberts levels after which I had to depart to make the long journey home. The camera was playing up a bit after getting damp!

29/9/13 Surrey Trenches

Another open day at the Surrey WW1 trench recreation site. These are owned by a military historian who created them more or less for his own interest. They are now being used however as research for a project to re-create a larger section of trenches as an educational resource.

I'm hoping we'll be able to incorporate more dug-out's and tunnels in the full scheme to show the part that mining played.

Sadly my current domestic situation is making underground trips difficult however this Sunday was quite interesting helping with the tank on a BBC filming project.

My post manning the Lewis gun, this gives a realistic effect using propane and oxygen. You won't see me in the finished production but you'll certainly hear me!

These fellows will never win if they treat their rifles like this!

Plans are still on-going for the tunnelling exhibit Thumb Up

A fantastic social weekend with good food good company and plenty of beer. I managed a photography trip into the top entrance of OFD but sadly didn't manage to take any charged up camera batteries with me.....

Another very good conference Thumb Up this was down as a photography trip although I'm not sure my results really did this title justice Blush in any case we had a fantastic trip and I was very pleased to get back in there for a bit more of a look round!

7/10/14, Phillips Lode, Gunnislake Level

A holiday in Cornwall with Mrs T enabled me to meet up with Tamarmole and the Plymouth caving group for a well attended evening trip to these interesting sites. Unfortunately camera problems meant photography was cut short.

Many thanks to Tamarmole and the Plymouth group for an entertaining evening! Flowers
