hi ,

while doing some dmin on my own exploration notes from various sites

i wondered - whats the largest " space " i has been in underground .

i has a couple of notions - but would be interested to here what others opinions are too .

i realise that the definition of a space - can be open to interpretation

ie are 2 connected chambers - in a slate quarry - one or 2 spaces ?

an example moel fferna quarry - and croesor

so - which site has the biggest void - either floor area or volume ?

For natural, I would think Titan or The Time Machine in Daren Cilau have to be contenders.

And just about any of the slate quarries will have incalculably large voids if you add it all up.

Man made - slate yes, Minllyn and Aberllefenni come to mind. Also the limestone workings off Milyr Tunnel.

GG main chamber has long been said to be the biggest natural in the UK, the the Frozen Deep in Cheddar claims to have passed that. Titan would seem to be the tallest natural open space. The Croeseor robbed chamber is worryingly large, but I cant comment on how it compares to other cavities in slate IP: 51.7.42.134

Hi,
The main lode of Devon Great Consols mine was some four miles long, up to 60 feet wide and up to 1.800 feet deep.
A good length can be explored above adit level, where the stopes are not continuous.
In its heyday, when it was the biggest copper/arsenic mine in the world, The lode was braced by entire forests of giant redwood pines from the west coast of the states...
There may be surveys somewhere, but I have not seen them...
Regards,
D.Send.
