If you are referring to the Local Cave & Mine Leader Award Scheme then all the info you need is on the BCA website:
http://british-caving.org.uk/wiki3/doku.php?id=training:lcmla_scheme
The Level 1 award is for horizontal trip leading. Level 2 is about vertical stuff. You must do L1 first.
LCMLA L1 training course places start around £150 but depend on duration and disciplines covered. Assessments involve 2 separate days and vary by assessor but around £120+ per day.

I'm a trainer/assessor for the scheme so please ask if you want to know anything else but the BCA Training pages have the whole process in detail and you can see a simplified breakdown on my website www.undergroundspecialist.co.uk

thanks for the info mate. I have been heading down a few mines in derbyshire so do have a little experience. Me and my pal discussed getting these tickets as we both feel it would benefit us for future excursions.

Can i ask where abouts you are based...might end up comming to you for the training and assesment. Can we do both level 1 and level 2 during the same session...maybe book in for a long weekend?

We are also looking to do our srt training

Thanks for your help much appreciated

I'm Peak based but operate in Snowdonia too.
You can do L2 training only after having done L1 training. Not back to back.
Is it the leadership stuff you are interested in (which these awards are heavily tilted towards) or more of the skills and knowledge of the environment? Perhaps something more bespoke might fit your goals.

Dan are you really looking for leadership training or just general training - not exactly sure where you live but clubs like Dudley Caving club http://www.dudleycavingclub.org.uk/ might be more the sort of thing you need with training and experience, Shropshire Caving and Mining Club likewise. No doubt lots of other clubs rather than paying for expensive training join in and get the knowledge experience , contacts permits , BCA insurance the whole lot and not especially expensive

Yeah i think im after more of the skills rather than leader training. We want to know safe practices and if we was ever to get stopped on exit i would like to have some sort of license/card to show we are all legal IP: 213.205.192.63

You need to re-think your philosophy a little here.....
Any "ticket" that you get is not going to make you instantly safe OR legal.

Get involved with a caving or mine exploration club or group and you'll soon be well on your way to being "safe".
"Legal" is a grey area. Wink

I agree. Sounds like the LCMLA scheme is not the right way for you. Look at the BCA subsidized training events on the website and join a reputable club.

Legal is a grey area, but become a BCA member and you'll at least have the insurance card to grease the wheels of access to some sites.

To add to that some sites managed by groups such as Cambrian Mines Trust its a requirement to have BCA insurance - many access agreements are only achieved due to having that insurance
