Hi,

Today I went in Lefel Fawr, just a quick shufti to see the steel road etc since I was passing. Haven't been for a while.

I was later directed to this video:

It's very cringey, but a bit of a virtual tour.

Haven't found the bloke's shoe, maybe still in there somewhere?

That's putting it mildly! Watch their earlier jaunt to Gaewern...bl00dy miracle they didn't kill themselves Oh My God

Extremely worrying that they seem to be moving more and more from urb ex to underground stuff...and have an astonishingly large following to encourage and inspire to be just as reckless and clueless.

This is becoming ever more a recipe for some serious bad times Confused

J

Isn't a sign saying danger of death enough?

Anyone know the guide?

As an aside to the discussion - please don't worry if it looks like the first two posts in this thread have been moderated. I've just been tweaking some code to fix the YouTube embeds (which are now working again).

Welcome to youtube nation, nowhere is safe. It's causing the urban exploring scene more damage than it causes itself and you can follow just how much quicker places deteriorate, introducing underground stuff to the clueless masses will not end well.

I am dealing with this.

Thing to remember from our lofty heights is that many of us were muppets at one time, its just that today we have YouTube introduced into the equation. We need new young people who are keen and encouragement in the direction of proper gear etc rather than just condemnation is more positive.

Lefel Fawr is now a reasonably safe area for muppets as I have been aware for some time the nature of some of the 'casual' visitors, as evidenced by the abandoned flip flops etc.

I have cleared the level of falls and trip hazards, improved access to the back by the new steel road etc, and made it as safe as can reasonably be done. I find that the casual visitor avoids ladderways and climb ups etc and sticks to the main route.

My main issue is lack of hard hats having seen what happened to an experienced explorer who should have known better but was tempted into a short level without one.

I dont know whether this will work out but after a bit of thinking I have just registered the domain safe-explore.co.uk.

I will prepare a 'safe explore' logo of a 'smiley' with helmet and fixed light with both hands free, and a 'sad' with one hand holding a torch, no helmet, and blood running down.

I want to try and get the message home. The website will be a sub domain of LED caplamps who will sponsor the initiative.

One can but try.

You've done great work at Level Fawr. I'm glad they didn't attempt the ladder way to the right after the steel road - having watched some of their other videos, and if they didn't have a guide, I'm not convinced they'd have stayed away!

Anyway, my original post wasn't supposed to be "hey look at these idiots", more of a "look at this very recent video".

Good idea on the website. People are going to do stupid things regardless, sometimes - including me, in the past. Sometimes in the present too....!

They are not idiots but are acting like idiots due to lack of awareness, as a lot of us did to start with with.

So what do you all think.

Simple message? Effective?

I agree, can remember finding a copy of "Caves of South Wales" in my local library and heading off the next weekend with a couple of torches, woolly hats and wellies to explore Daren Y Cilau....didn't get far but could've quite easily gotten into big bother! It served as a lesson though, now posses proper kit, and years of experience which i hope elevate me above muppet status! YouTube and the internet are going to play a part these days, the world is more accessible, not necessarily a good thing I agree. IP: 109.158.11.58

Another instance of Cwmystwyth, this time international - don't know if it's been posted elsewhere on the forum. My friend in Denmark sent this to me - there's even a bit shot at the car wash local to me.

Cwmystwyth starts at about 1hr 14m I think
