Members will wish to note that person/s unknown have entered Carrs Mine at Nenthead without asking for permission, and have damaged a safety barrier.
This annoys me because (1) if you had asked, you would have been granted access, (2) time and money has to be spent on repairs, (3) damaging a safety barrier is a criminal offence, and (4) the incident reflects on the credibility of the responsible exploration community.

Its annoys everybody except the kind of morons who do this sort of thing.

The old gate on Jacks at Box stone mines only needed a 17mm Allen key to open, and yet people used to cut bars out.

This does not make me angry, just sad.

Absolute *ankers Pete. As you say no need for it.

Just a different take on it - do you know if it was some 'ME's" as there has been a spate of 'scape metal' collectors operating with scouts around the area and lots of stuff has gone walk about including stuff out of peoples sheds, nothing to do with thinking that there could be scrap to be had from the mine?

Sorry to hear about this Peter.
There is no easy way of preventing this type of stuff, except, by installing video cameras of some description. Clearly even that would not deter them, but you could put a sign saying that the entrance was under video surveillance and that might be enough to at least reduce some of these numpties.
That is how our local, authority reduced graffiti on the underside of a flyover, near to my house.

Mike
- this was a "from inside job" - no metal touched, but our largest galena specimen has coincidentally gone missing.

Hello Pete, a covert video camera is the way to go I think. Mark H. (ebgb) is an expert at this kind of 'techie business' -I'm sure he will be along shortly. He'll be able to give you the low down. When he was 'care taking' Rogerley the other year he got a couple of brilliant images of 'hammer and chisel man' - a muppet who wandered up one day to see if he could break in! Video evidence is a great deterrent and gives positive ID which I'm sure would stand up in a court of law.

Really saddened to hear this, Pete.
Knowing that the culprits haven’t damaged any doors and appear to have entered the mine by other means must make it all the more frustrating - that obviously points to someone who knows the mines and has the means to get in there; Therefore damaging trust of anyone who visits the place.
Hopefully the perpetrators get a good dose of karma in return.
F*ckers.

Hi All,
one of those wildlife cameras that react to movement could possibly be a cheaper proposition and easy enough to hide. Some even use infrared to take pics in the dark.

Cheers
