My sailing club uses old Sandwell Park Colliery (Diamond Jubilee colliery) pithead baths for a club house and pit pond to sail on, we have also used railings from various parts of site to make a boat park.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UElDxiAAW3c

I have read several topics on here regarding repurposing of old mines, water supply etc, what other uses have old mines been put to ?

I've seen a video of a mine on the continent that was being used as an underground mountain bike trail.

You call that an evil genius' lair? What about the monorail?

Whilst we are on the subject you will also need to swap the LEDs for Nixe tubes.

In similar scientific vein* :

Underground monitoring station for crustal tilting due to sea tide influences (Parc Lead Mine No.2 Level, Gwydyr, NW Wales, 1960s).

Experimental underground explosion / seismography monitoring in attempt to replicate effects of underground nuclear testing to improve international test monitoring (Greenside Lead Mines, 1950s).

* awful pun but couldn't resist

Similar but lower tech approach:

Used to store winter water to be released during summer droughts to keep leats feeding water wheels and dressing floors supplied (Alderson's Level at Cwmystwyth Mines, late C19 and early C20).

Query: at Cwmorthin Slate Mine, Back Vein chambers A1 East and B1 East were dammed up and the water piped down the Back Vein Incline: was this solely to reduce the volume water draining to the bottom of the incline from where it had to be puped away, or was the water from these two chambers piped to somewhere where it was used for something?
