Hello, Looking at these excellent photos from Yarlside mines and wondering if anyone could indicate which ones are of number 8 pit please, I'm particularly interested as my Gt Gt Grandfather George Law Wallwork was unfortunately killed there in 1886.
I will be visiting the area again soon and would like to visit, Many thanks in advance, Keith Wallwork.

It is the one in the foreground in this picture. I am sorry to say that you will find the site much altered with the two 20th century pits completely removed but this part of the site is much the same.

The circumstances of the accident have just been pointed out to me and it is a shocker. The cage was overwound and his son was driving the engine.
