Looks like they may designate it as a Superfund site. The Denver Post has a December 3rd, 2015 article about it. IP: 96.89.147.110

Plugging an adit will mean that water backs up behind it until it reaches the next free-draining horizon.

Digging the plug out whilst the water is behind it will result in all that water rushing out.

Obviously.

Most 4 year olds who make little dams with sand at the beach will be able to explain the physics behind this, but it is obviously beyond the EPA.

We can be just as silly in this country, I've known of many adits, on a smaller scale but still significant, that have been completely plugged as a dam with millions of gallons of water held back under high pressure. A really silly idea, plugging any adit. You're just making a time bomb.

Seen many reports on this over the last couple of years and there was a video going about at one point of startled EPA chaps driving their trucks off after releasing the water. What I've never worked out was what their aim was in opening the adit given they appeared to know what was in there? Where they hoping to catch it all somehow? IP: 188.39.178.242

Gunnislake is the classic example. If the choke in deep adit ever goes it will be more than impressive.

Gunnislake was an exercise in JGP making a fortune and not tackling the problem.

The cap on Engine Shaft is probably one of the most expensive ever done in Cornwall.
