Hi,
Do you know the date of this photo please? My grandfather was born at "Hole" along the valley back towards Ireshopeburn and his father was a lead miner. Hole is now derelict. Just wondering how many men worked there and whether my grat grandfather might be in this photo. Thanks.

I don't have the answer I'm afraid but I'd like to guess 1910, just so that when the real answer comes along I want to see how close I got!

I think the first mine at Barbary opened in about 1880, which is also when the place "Hole" first appeared on census'.
On the minedat site , the location of Barbary mine, or at least is incorrect. If you click on the Lat' Long' link to google maps, the mine was actually up along the Ireshopeburn approximately south of the village.
